I want to talk about a critical subject…one that is discussed regularly on the web and with a great deal of debate. This has an effect on everybody who partcipates in social media on the web and has far reaching ramifications (Ramifications! Wow!)…
Updating your Facebook Wall and Twitter stream of what you are currently eating.
Ok. I spilled it.
I recognize several of you perusing this right this moment have to be saying ‘Darn…Kenny truly did it! He brought it out in the open!’ It needed to be said….and it has to be answered.
I will get right to the point. I support and encourage anyone on Social Media to frequently Facebook and Tweet what you happen to be eating and drinking…basically constantly.
We already see alot of proof of this on the web. Let me show you precisely why it's so necessary.
Most of us eat several times each day. Some try to eat as many as 5-6 times every day. A few even 10-20! (damn you go…but save some for us okay??) Which means that it is obviously something that everyone does a whole lot of. We also post to our Wall on Facebook and Tweet alot on top of that. Some more than other people I'm sure and some update alot more than they eat.
For that reason doesn’t it make sense to combine the two?
Since the dawn of time we have boasted by what we had for our meal the evening before at work the next day. “Man, I had some amazing Tortellini last night and some insane buttery garlic bread!” Using Social Media now we are now more ‘immediate’ regarding it.
Real time. Real eating.
Honestly, once you look at it, I do think that’s what Social Media was devised for. Because it certainly isn't any good for marketing! *wink*
I don’t know about any of you, but now I’m at the stage where I search my Facebook and twitter to find what people are eating and also what fabulous drinks they’re enjoying. I’m over the Tweets on Forex, quotes by Confucius and how much Kim Kardashian loves all of us and her high heels.
Speaking of Miss Kardashian (she’s not hitched right? I can’t keep up), I think she should step up her #tweetingwhatsheseating. I KNOW she eats! Right??
NOTE: We need to rename Twitter 'Kim Kardashian On Twitter'. I presume all two hundred Gazillion people follow her.
But I digress (been waiting to use that phrase for some time…)
Give me a roast beef and cheddar together with a Newcastle Brown Ale update any day…and preferably with a photo.
Which brings me to my next point: Photos with the updates rock! You want to look at what everyone is enjoying, right? That should be 50% of one's updates whenever possible.
Now on to the detractors, or what I call the ‘web food downers. (I haven’t thought of a more suitable moniker than that therefore ideas are encouraged in the comments below!)
You know who these people are. These people whine on-line periodically about the…well…updates on food.
‘If I see yet another update of what you had for lunch I’m deleting you blah blah…’
Is that so? So you’re so genuinely offended by my lunch Tweet you have to delete me? So inconvenienced that I’ve blocked your stream (eww!) that you’ll miss that critical update on the newest Twitter spamming program?
Well get yourself a frickin’ life Mr. ‘You will make 197 grand on Twitter starting tonight’ because everyone knows you’re pounding down a Big Mac and washing it down with a 44 ounce Coke using the $8.54 you really made!
And so there it is. Like the title says, I make no apologies for my #tweetingwhatimeating and I also plan to even step it up several notches, and on my personal blog.
And it’s time that 1…we all admit that we love to eat a lot more than we’ll actually fess up to and need absolutely everyone to see it frequently and 2…accept that this is the Real reason Social Media was invented.
